Two remanded over murder of businessman whose body was found wrapped in netting

TWO men believed to be the principal suspects in the murder of a businessman whose body was found wrapped and bound with netting in Sungai Tanjung Sembrong, Parit Raja, earlier this week have been remanded for six days.

Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno granted the remand order against the suspects, aged 33 and 34, from Wednesday until next Monday.

Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the remand was obtained to facilitate investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

He said the two suspects were arrested separately in Kluang and Johor Bahru on Tuesday following the discovery of the victim's body.

The suspects arrived at the Magistrate's Court at about 8am for the remand proceedings linked to the killing of the 39-year-old businessman.

Police had earlier received a report from members of the public at about 12.30pm on Monday regarding the discovery of a man's body in a river in a gruesome condition.

Subsequent checks revealed that a local woman had lodged a police report at 10.09pm on July 29 regarding the disappearance of her husband in Mutiara Rini, Iskandar Puteri.

The victim was later identified by his next of kin based on the clothing and personal belongings found with the body.

Police also found several injuries on the victim's waist and arms.

Investigators are still establishing the motive for the killing but have not ruled out the possibility that it was linked to outstanding debts. - August 5, 2026
