KUALA LUMPUR – The operations division and appointed consultant of the Sg Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) are reviewing the design of a reportedly troublesome exit ramp to make it into two lanes.

SUKE concessionaire Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) today said it is possible to improve the single-wide lane at the ramp heading towards the Cheras-Kajang Expressway (CKE, also known as Grand Saga) at the PGA/Jalan Medan Masria traffic lights.

In a statement today, it said this will help reduce the queue period and allow more vehicles to be released at a time.

“The review will be done together with CKE’s concession company to review the overall traffic light configuration, including one nearby Maktab PDRM that is also under its jurisdiction,” it said

Two units of no-right turn signage will be placed 200m from the junction to CKE and one at the said junction to warn road users not to make a right turn that can cause traffic to slow down and eventually lead to traffic blocking.

Both signages are expected to be installed this week, it added.

The Vibes reported yesterday that highway users have criticised the lack of free flow traffic as the single-lane elevated ramp exit ends with traffic lights.

Due to this, expressway users have had to endure bumper-to-bumper traffic between 10 minutes and 30 minutes to pass through the Taman Cuepacs/PGA and Jalan Cheras junction before getting onto the Grand Saga toll plaza at the 9th mile of Jalan Cheras.

According to SUKE, a new slip road, approximately 400m in length (from St Francis of Assisi Church at the 7th mile of Jalan Cheras to Jalan Medan Masria), is partially completed, with the construction of a balance 200m length expected to be completed by the end of February next year.

“In the bigger picture, all the actions carried out feasibly will provide convenience for all SUKE users and ease traffic at the surrounding connecting roads,” the statement said. – The Vibes, September 26, 2022
