MIRI – Emergency food supplies are being deployed to interior residents living in badly flooded populated localities in northern Sarawak as the rainy weather persists.
These residents live in the lower part of Baram district, in Beluru district proper, and Tinjar sub-district located about 120-km inland from Miri.
The Welfare Department is coordinating these emergency food supplies and the Miri Civil Defence Force has been tasked with the delivery.
The latter’s Miri chief Usman Harto in a press statement said unit teams have delivered food aid packs to 599 families so far from yesterday.
“They are sent into the flooded zones using land routes and then using river tributaries,” he said.
Among the places covered so far are Long Marigam, Rumah Paking, Rumah Magdeline, Lubok Muling, Rumah Duri, Nanga Sheridan, Long Teru, SK Long Teru, and Long Teru Health Clinic, said Usman.
Floods have continued to be a daily woe in the interior northern regions of Sarawak since last week.
Among the badly hit settlements last week were Long Bemang, Long Panai, Long Benawa, Long Ekang, Tutoh-Apoh basin, and Marudi town. – The Vibes, September 26, 2022
