BANGI – The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry is aiming for full digitalisation within two years to provide a much better delivery system.

Its secretary-general Datuk Azman Mohd Yusof said the process will involve all clusters or service sectors including enforcement, controlled goods and subsidies as well as businesses and distribution systems.

Currently, the level of digital application in these sectors is at 80% as there are still some improvements to be made including changing the mindset and work practices of the ministry workforce, he said.

“In terms of its application, some (sectors) have already started (implementing digitalisation) but some have not, and that is why we have collaborated, from August 15 to October 14, with Universiti Malaya to produce a blueprint for end-to-end (E2E) and big data digitalisation of the ministry’s services.

“The recommendations will help us plan our digitalisation plans for each sector depending on its complexity or the current state of the respective sector,” he told a  press conference after receiving the blueprint from consulting company UPUM Sdn Bhd here today.

He said through this action plan, the ministry will be able to create an E2E digital ecosystem for all its services, besides no longer developing or using non-technological or semi-technological service systems.

Azman said its system currently was mostly in conventional form and stressed that the ministry needed a system that would be able to analyse data using artificial intelligence so that the right decisions involving the consumers and trade group can be made.

“In the new era, digital development is a must. If we are left out, we could end up far behind compared to other countries, and in this regard, the ministry should not be complacent and must pursue the best solutions to remain relevant,” he said. – Bernama, September 29, 2022
