KOTA KINABALU – The monsoon season has started to affect the state capital here as several areas within the region, including Sepanggar and Penampang, are reported to be flooded.
In a statement today, Penampang Civil Defence Force (CDF) said as of 5pm today, two roads have been flooded and cannot be used by smaller vehicles – Jalan Panglima Banting and Jalan Sugud.
Several houses in the Kg Sarapung area are also reported to be flooded.
Though Penampang CDF has yet to receive calls for help from its residents, the district’s disaster management committee will activate a relief centre as soon as possible given the continuous rain.

CDF has so far deployed patrol teams to inspect the water levels at hotspot areas, including Jalan Panglima Banting, Kolopis, Sungai Moyog, Kg Madsaing, Kg Penampang Proper, Kg Sugud, Sg Maang, Inobong, and the Sigar roundabout.
Sg Moyog continues to be at a dangerous level at 8.12m as of 5.19pm today, and the rain has not stopped.
Social media users have also shared pictures and videos of the flood situation in Sepanggar-Sulaman area.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued warnings of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in several areas including the interior districts of Sabah (Sipitang, Tenom, Nabawan) and Sandakan (Tongod) until around 10pm tonight. – The Vibes, October 9, 2022
