KUALA LUMPUR – At 85, Umno veteran Tan Sri Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is prepared to defend the Gua Musang parliamentary seat if the party chooses him as the candidate for the 15th general election.

He said voters in the seat which he has defended for 12 terms do not want him to step aside.

“As for me, I leave it to the party. Here in Gua Musang, the people, especially the Orang Asli, tell me they don’t want me to retire,” Tengku Razaleigh, also known as Ku Li, was reported saying by Berita Harian after a meeting of the Gua Musang Umno division today.

He said the Umno division here has also urged him to offer himself as a candidate again.

If chosen by the party, this will make Ku Li the second oldest candidate known to be contesting in Malaysia’s national polls so far.

Two-time prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, 97, said recently he would defend his Langkawi seat again. He is now with Pejuang, which he founded, under the Gerakan Tanah Air coalition. – The Vibes, October 15, 2022
