KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has yet to receive a party resignation letter from Bandau’s Bersatu assemblyman Wetrom Bahanda, despite the latter making clear his intentions to join Warisan.
Hajiji said he is aware of Wetrom’s move announcing that he will contest the Kota Marudu seat in the coming general election under Warisan’s ticket, which had gone viral on social media earlier this week.
“We have seen it on social media, and it seemed like that (Wetrom is leaving Bersatu to join Warisan),” he said at a press conference in Kota Marudu today.
Hajiji, however, said that he is confident that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) as a strong and stable coalition will remain unaffected by Wetrom’s move.
He said Kota Marudu has three state seats, including Bandau, Tandek and Matunggong, in which two were won by Parti Bersatu Sabah during the 2020 Sabah election.
“PBS is strong in the two state seats, and I believe that Sabah Bersatu’s supporters in Bandau will also remain loyal to GRS,” he said.
Meanwhile, Hajiji said that he has no problem if Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili – PBS president and incumbent Kota Marudu MP – intends to defend the seat.
He said Ongkili has provided major contributions to the constituency, and such is proven through the rapid development in the area.
“From about ten shops (in Kota Marudu) to now hundreds of shops, there is no denying that Ongkili is capable and has made huge contributions here,” said Hajiji. – The Vibes, October 16, 2022
