IPOH – An unemployed man pleaded not guilty in the magistrates' court today to a charge with driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs, resulting in a road crash that caused a policeman on duty to be injured last Tuesday.
Nor Azman Mat Salleh, 35, made the plea before Magistrate Umzarul An-Nur Umar.
He was charged with riding a motorcycle while under the influence of drugs, resulting in a road crash that caused Corporal Mohd Aizal Md Lazim, who was on duty at a police roadblock at Jalan Silibin to be injured.
The incident occurred about 11.15am on July 24.
If found guilty, it will be under Section 44(1A)(a) of the Transport Act, provides imprisonment for up to 10 years or a maximum fine of RM50,000.
Azman was allowed bail of RM5,000 in one surety.
The court also ordered his driving licence be suspended and set January 14 to mention for submission of documents and appointment of counsel.
