KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s son Mohd Nizar Najib will not be vying for his father’s seat in Pekan, Pahang, in the 15th general election (GE15).
Instead, Barisan Nasional (BN) president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi tonight announced incumbent Peramu Jaya assemblyman Datuk Sri Sheikh Mohamed Puzi Sheikh Ali as the coalition’s candidate for the seat.
Nizar, 44, is Pekan Umno Youth division chief and is to be nominated for a state seat, according to Pekan Umno division deputy chief Zamri Ramly on October 13.
However, Nizar on October 28 claimed he might be fielded in Pekan, in addition to a state seat within the same federal constituency.
Former prime minister Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence in Kajang Prison after losing his appeal at the Federal Court which upheld his conviction and sentence for misappropriating RM42 million worth of funds linked to SRC International Bhd.
Najib had defended the Pekan seat for 10 terms since taking over the seat from his father and second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein in 1976. – The Vibes, November 1, 2022
