IPOH – The new Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for Perak state and Parliament seats are determined to spring some surprises and win their seats in the 15th general election (GE15).

Tambun Umno division chief Datuk Aminuddin Md Hanafiah who was selected as the BN candidate in the Tambun parliamentary constituency is steadfast in giving a tough fight to two big names namely, Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the incumbent Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu to snatch the parliamentary seat back for BN.

“It will not dampen my spirit because I am sure Tambun voters are wise to choose and evaluate the party that should be appointed to represent them,” he told Bernama after the announcement of BN candidates by state chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad today.

BN Pengkalan Baru state seat candidate Azman Noh said BN kept its promise by presenting fresh and experienced faces to continue upholding the people’s trust as the coalition’s candidate in GE15.

“It is proven that BN wants to change by presenting 70% new faces as announced earlier and as a new candidate, I promise to work hard to ensure that BN remains in Pengkalan Baru,” he said.

Meanwhile, BN communications coordinator chief and Larut Umno division youth information chief Mohd Shafiq Fhadly Mahmud, 37, said his selection to replace independent preacher Datuk Mohd Kazim Elias who withdrew at the last minute, would be challenge for him and his team.

“The underdog tag on me does not mean anything nor will it shake my resolve as I will carry the spirit of BN machinery in Larut.

“The incumbent (Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin) is a political figure and I hope our clash is a healthy competition where we only want to seek a mandate from the people because, in the previous GE, the people gave a mandate to BN,” he said.

Meanwhile, Umno Youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki rejected his candidacy in the Gerik parliamentary seat as a parachute candidate to fulfil the mandate of the leadership for GE15.

In the meantime, the candidate for Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat Datuk Maslin Sham Razman said the responsibility for the new candidate’s ticket was not unfamiliar to him as he had served as an assemblyman for two terms.

“To replace (Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat incumbent) Datuk Mastura Mohd Yazid, is an honour for me and it is not an easy task to do but I will try to do my best,” he said.

The Perak state assembly has 59 seats. Before the dissolution on Octover 17, it consisted of 25  BN assemblymen, DAP (15), Parti Amanah Negara (five), Bersatu (four) while PAS, PKR and Parti Bangsa Malaysia each had three and independent (one). – Bernama, November 2, 2022
