PUTRAJAYA – The Home Ministry has gazetted a prohibition order against three publications for content which could be detrimental to morality, effective last October 12.
The three books are Chelsia Amanda (Berdasarkan Kisah Benar), Heartstopper Volume 2, and Cekik, with the prohibition order issued under Section 7(1) of the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (Act 301).
As such, any printing, importation, production, reproduction, publishing, sale, issue, circulation, distribution, or possession of the said publications is strictly prohibited in Malaysia, it said in a statement today.
The ministry said the book Chelsia Amanda (Berdasarkan Kisah Benar) contains obscene and immoral content that contradicts Malaysian cultural values and social norms, which place great emphasis on decency.
Meanwhile, it said the contents of the publications titled Heartstopper Volume 2 and Cekik were viewed as an attempt to promote lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender culture – besides containing obscene elements, which go against the country’s religious and cultural sensitivities.
According to the ministry, those who violated the order can be imprisoned for up to three years or fined not exceeding RM20,000, or both under Section 8(2) of Act 301.
Complaints regarding such publications can be made to the ministry’s enforcement and control division at 03-8886-8047, faxed to 03-8889-1682, or via the website http://moha.spab.gov.my. – Bernama, November 8, 2022
