KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s lawyers have sent a letter of demand to Kedah PAS chief Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for allegedly defaming him in a campaign speech by calling the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman “morally bankrupt”.

Sanusi in a speech in Tambun, where Anwar is contesting, had recalled the PKR president’s past convictions for corruption and sodomy.

The letter of demand, which was sent by the law firm S. N. Nair & Partners today, demanded that Sanusi retract his words and apologise unconditionally,

Sanusi, who is PAS election director and Kedah menteri besar,  is given three days to respond, failing which Anwar will file a defamation suit for RM10 million.

Anwar’s letter states that Sanusi’s speech was made on November 13 in Tambun and had been uploaded on the Facebook page of Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Tambun candidate Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who is the seat’s incumbent and Anwar’s main contender.

“It was watched more than 81,000 times, received 383 comments and 500 reactions, and was shared 61 times as of the date of this notice,” Anwar’s lawyers said, adding that this had tarnished their client’s reputation.

The video of Sanusi was also reported by Malaysiakini and posted on the news portal’s YouTube channel on November 14, the letter added.

The letter also states that Anwar received a royal pardon in 2018, clearing him of all past convictions on the basis that there was a miscarriage of justice. – The Vibes, November 16, 2022
