KUALA LUMPUR – Warisan will support Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in forming a new government, president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has said.
In a statement, he said the support is based on the fact that the combination of the two coalitions will make up the bloc with the largest number of MPs.
“Both have the number of seats to form a government and the majority of people have voted for PH and BN.
“As such, PH and BN should be given the first choice to form the government,” he said today.
Warisan won three parliamentary seats in the 15th general election. PH won 82 and BN, 30.
Shafie, who successfully defended his Semporna parliamentary seat in the recent election, added that Warisan’s support for PH and BN is also based on the premise that the new government will resolve in full the 21 claims under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“The party hopes that PH together with BN will be able to secure partners that will enable the formation of the next federal government that brings political stability and unity to the country.”
With the latest backing from Warisan’s three lawmakers, the PH-BN bloc would have 115 MPs, surpassing the minimum number required to form the government.
Party leaders have been told to submit their preferred choice of alliances and prime minister candidate to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by 2pm today. – The Vibes, November 22, 2022
