KUALA LUMPUR – The Sabah and Sarawak Affairs under the Prime Minister’s Department do not require a big allocation as it functions to propose, discuss and consult with the federal government on issues faced by the two states, said minister Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili (PBS-Kota Marudu).
He was asked in Dewan Rakyat by Chong Chieng Jen (PH-Stampin) why Sabah and Sarawak Affairs did not get an allocation for development.
Chong said he has proposed for RM3 billion to be allocated under the ministry, on top of RM22 million that is allocated under the Budget 2021, but he had not received any feedback on his proposal.
Ongkili told Chong not to worry, as the ministry will be directly involved with the development expenditure funds allocated for Sabah and Sarawak to ensure that they reach their targeted purpose.
“The ministry will look into problems faced by Sabah and Sarawak, such as the problem with illegal immigrants in Sabah, and solve them through meetings and consultations.
“If we find that the ministry is unable to function due to lack of funds, we will solve this problem through discussion with the federal government.
“Stampin (Chong) does not need to worry, as the Perikatan Nasional has formed this ministry with the intention to help Sabah and Sarawak.
“We are confident that whatever planning that we do, it will be supported by the federal government.” – The Vibes, November 30, 2020
