KUALA LUMPUR – New senators will be sworn in tomorrow, Senate President Tan Sri Rais Yatim said, according to Astro Awani.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held at 8.30am, taking place after the new cabinet is announced tonight by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

At press time, Anwar is scheduled to announce his cabinet line-up at 8.15pm tonight.

Rais told Astro Awani that the list of Dewan Negara members is still under embargo.

An unelected cabinet minister can be appointed by way of a senatorship, as was the case with former finance minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz in the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob administrations.

Ahead of Anwar’s announcement on his cabinet line-up, there has been speculation that certain portfolios would be assigned to general election candidates who contested but lost. – The Vibes, December 2, 2022
