ISKANDAR PUTERI – Johor assemblymen will not be allowed to ask oral questions on behalf of other state representatives who are absent from assembly sittings beginning next year.
The ruling was made by Johor Speaker Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi, who announced the matter before the question-and-answer session today.
“I’ve decided today that beginning next year, the Johor assembly will no longer allow elected representatives who did not attend the sitting to get their questions raised by those that were present.
“If you did not attend the sittings, it means that you are not present. We will not tolerate members who do not follow the rules as this will affect the Johor assembly’s credibility,” said Puad, who is also Rengit assemblyman.
Puad was referring to three assemblymen who were not present yesterday but had their questions asked on their behalf by their colleagues.
The trio are Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain (Mahkota-Umno), Ee Chin Li (Tangkak-DAP) and Hahasrin Hashim (Panti-Umno).
Puad added that the Johor assembly would not allow any of its members to become a proxy for others.
“The state assembly will not allow any proxy to act on behalf of those that were not present even if they are down with Covid-19 or other issues.
“Therefore, the questions (that were submitted by elected representatives who were not present) could also not be raised by others.” – The Vibes, December 7, 2022
