SHAH ALAM – Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged all political parties and their affiliates under the newly formed unity government to move forward from their warring past and instead focus on helping the people.

Acknowledging differing political ideologies as one of the reasons behind their contentions, the Umno president said all stakeholders should now work towards a common ground and maintain political stability for the sake of the country.

Zahid also said he has “forgiven” all who have created negative perceptions of him, Umno, and Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Let’s put an end to disagreements. On a personal basis, I have forgiven any parties, individuals, organisations that have created negative perceptions of me and BN. I have forgiven all of you.

“But my advice is don’t do it ever again,” he quipped, drawing laughter from the crowd.

Zahid was speaking at a luncheon event in Batu 8, Shah Alam held in his honour for helping form the unity government.

He went on to explain that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has managed to unite parties of differing ideologies and created a stable government.

“Our country is blessed by God not just because we share the same ideologies, but also a sense of togetherness as Malaysians,” he said.

During his speech, Zahid also said that while BN suffered its worst-ever electoral performance, winning only 30 seats, it was “destined” to cooperate with Pakatan Harapan (PH), who garnered 82 seats in the last election.

“God has destined that their 82 seats plus our 30 was enough for a simple majority to form the government.

“From there, we saw other parties cooperate to form this government, giving us 2/3 majority support, or 148 seats in Parliament,” he said.

Zahid then again reiterated that “it is time that we all move on” and work to help the people of all races and religions. – The Vibes, December 24, 2022
