KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s Supreme Council did not discuss any motion on whether to allow for the party’s top two posts to be contested, in a meeting on the eve of the party’s annual general assembly tomorrow.

Party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi briefly explained to the press that the Supreme Council had met tonight simply to discuss the motions brought forward by all three-party wings in the past two days.

“The Supreme Council meeting tonight simply discusses the contents of the speeches that will be brought forward to the AGM tomorrow. The party’s permanent chairman has made a report on tomorrow’s preparation.

"On state election preparations, we will discuss in a different meeting,” said Zahid.

Meanwhile, another Supreme Council member, Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, also said the meeting tonight was only conducted briefly, as they discussed “housekeeping” matters.

This was also echoed by Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, who explained that the meeting tonight merely discussed the planned itinerary for the AGM.

“On Sabah politics, we will discuss this in another meeting.

“The meeting tonight merely touched on the president’s speech, motion introduced by delegates, and amendments to the party constitution,” he said. – The Vibes, January 12, 2023
