MIRI –  Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah has assured Sarawakians that the federal government has “genuine” intentions to return the state’s rights by fulfilling the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

Speaking at his Chinese New Year open house in Limbang town, Hasbi said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has shown commitment to achieving this objective.

He said the government is currently taking “serious steps” to restore and fulfill MA63.

“The unity government in Putrajaya is already in the process of making sure that the privileges of Sarawak, as contained in MA63, are fully restored to the state.

“Anwar has shown genuine intention by appointing Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf to be in charge of the committee handling the matter.”

“It is just a matter of time before our rights are fully restored,” Hasbi said.

“We (as) Sarawakians, must give our backing to the unity government’s efforts.”

Hasbi, who is also a Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu supreme council member, said efforts to accord Sarawak autonomy and control over education and health were currently underway.

“These are among the key positive strides that Anwar has embarked upon in restoring Sarawak’s rights.

“We, the rakyat, must give our full support to realise these goals,” he said.

Hasbi said Sarawakians can expect to see faster socioeconomic progress this year and in the following years under the present unity government. – The Vibes, January 24, 2023
