JOHOR BARU – Johor police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said eight members of the force were dismissed for various criminal activities last year.
He said of the number, three were involved in drug-related cases, misconduct (three), cases investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) (one), and crime (one).
“Apart from this, seven police members were suspended, whereas 67 were interdicted,” he said when speaking at the Johor police contingent headquarters’ monthly assembly here today.
“No doubt there are still members who do not comply with discipline and lack integrity, therefore it is the responsibility of all levels to supervise a few of those who stray from the path.”
Meanwhile, he said the Johor narcotics criminal investigation department had arrested 14,655 individuals for various drug offences last year and seized 4.3 tonnes of drugs worth RM14.6 million.
Earlier, Kamarul Zaman presented letters of appreciation to seven media practitioners, including two Bernama reporters – Shaidathul Suhana Ros and Nur Fatin Mohmad Kadenen, and photographer Shaifuldin Ahmad.
The letters were to recognise the role of the media in conveying information and reporting on the successes of Johor police.
At the same time, Kamarul Zaman presented the Johor police chief’s appreciation medals to two of the state police’s canine unit (K9) dogs for successfully helping to solve criminal cases in the state last year.
The dogs Jinuo, a German Shepherd, and Ma’te, a Belgian Shepherd, received their awards together with their handlers Donny Henry and Carvin Maluni.
The recently retired 12-year-old Jinuo was given a medal of appreciation for his success in locating two CCTV camera decoders that were hidden in bushes to help solve a robbery case.
The 9-year-old Ma’te was awarded for successfully locating the spot where the burnt clothes of a murder victim were found last year. – Bernama, January 26, 2023
