KUALA LUMPUR – Current Umno Youth member Datuk Nazifuddin Najib has offered himself to contest for the post of Umno Youth vice-chief.

In a statement today, Nazifuddin expressed his wishes to help the party’s youth wing attract more young people and contribute to youth development in sports, hone their talent, and develop a youth-based economy through multiple activities.

“As a member of a sporting association, I feel that there is an advantage for me to approach youngsters and persuade them to join us (Umno).”

“If elected, I intend to focus on winning over votes from fresh school-leavers who will be key voters in the upcoming elections,” he added.

The son of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Nazifuddin is presently serving as Olympic Council Of Malaysia secretary-general.

His announcement comes after the Umno Supreme Council on Friday announced the sackings of Supreme Council member Tan Sri Noh Omar and former youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin for breaching the party’s constitution.

Also sacked were five Umno members from the Pasir Gudang division, nine from the Putrajaya division, two from the Tg Karang division, and 26 members from Pahang.

Sembrong Umno chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, meanwhile, was suspended for six years along with Umno Youth deputy chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan, Tebrau Umno chief Datuk Maulizan Bujang, and Jempol Umno chief Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Mohd Sharif. – The Vibes, January 29, 2023
