JOHOR BARU – The move to print copies of the Quran for worldwide distribution in a bid to combat Islamophobia is not excessive, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Tambun MP questioned public perception towards the initiative and emphasised that these efforts are being done to widen the world’s understanding towards the faith.
“What is so excessive (about distributing) translated copies of the Al-Quran? It’s not only the 20,000 Swedish copies but in other languages too for better understanding.
“The problem now is understanding the religion. Those against Islam have not read. Those who fight back aren’t doing it in the right way either. That is a problem too, if there’s a disagreement, they throw labels such as liberals, secular, and Western.
“So we have to read back the translated text, interpret it to at least save and lift the dignity of Islam,” Anwar told reporters.
