KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has extended his condolences to Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) star Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad following the death of two of his family members in a road accident in Penang early this morning.
“We are always with you, Syafiq. May they rest in peace. Al-Fatihah,” he said in a short Facebook post today.
Tunku Ismail urged the public to refrain from sharing photos and videos of the accident as a mark of respect for Syafiq and his family.
Syafiq’s 22-day-old son and 45-year-old mother-in-law, Zainab Wabah, along with Indonesian Titik Sukamti, believed to be the family’s maid, died in a crash early this morning near the Sg Bakap exit lane on the North-South Expressway.
Syafiq, 25, and his 2-year-old daughter, Aaira Nur Saffiyya, suffered minor injuries while his wife, Nur Amalina Nur Ain, 25, is said to be in serious condition.
The three have been admitted to Seberang Jaya Hospital.
The accident is believed to have occurred after the driver of the family’s Toyota Vellfire lost control and rammed into the railing along the highway.
Meanwhile, Bernama reported the JDT Football Club as also conveying its condolences to striker Syafiq.
“We express our sympathies to Syafiq Ahmad, on the passing of his family members. May Allah bless their souls, Al-Fatihah,” the club said in a post on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page. – The Vibes, December 6, 2020
