KUALA LUMPUR – The Malay rulers should strip PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang of his titles if he refuses to retract his statement on toppling the government and for insulting the king’s decree to support a stable government, Amanah Youth said.

Led by the wing’s vice-chief Abbas Salimmi Azmi, a group of Amanah Youth members submitted a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong with this proposal to a palace official outside Istana Negara today.

Abbas said Hadi had gone against the Agong’s decree calling for political stability and for no more changes in the government formed after the November elections.

He added that the Marang MP had said that the king’s decree was not the “final say” in preventing a change of government.

“In this memorandum, we ask that the king consider revoking the title of Tan Sri that Hadi was awarded last year, and all other titles bestowed on him due to his insolence and disrespect against the Malay rulers,” Abbas said, as quoted by various media after the memorandum’s submission today.

“What Hadi said cannot be ignored. The Agong has decreed several times since the formation of the unity government that all should support the government and focus on the country’s recovery,” Abbas added.

On Monday, Hadi said in the Dewan Rakyat during the debate on Budget 2023 that the opposition had “the right” to overthrow the government and that this was “normal” in democratic countries, whether through general elections or through Parliament.

When asked by reporters to explain if his remarks went against the Agong’s decree, Hadi said that the monarchs in Malaysia were still bound by the federal constitution and were not the final say on changing a government.

Prior to this, Hadi had also made veiled threats against the unity government, saying the opposition should not be blamed if the government collapsed due to its own weaknesses.

Abbas today announced that Amanah Youth has started an online petition for Hadi’s titles to be withdrawn.

The wing will also lodge a police report against the Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

Abbas added that Amanah Youth will also hold a nationwide roadshow against Hadi. – The Vibes, March 8, 2023
