KUALA LUMPUR – If PAS decides to sideline Muafakat Nasional, Kelantan Umno will be ready to contest against the Islamist party.
In a statement today, Kelantan Umno secretariat said it could place candidates in all state assembly and parliamentary constituencies in the event PAS shows tendencies to veer from Muafakat.
The secretariat said it will support decisions made by Umno president and the party's Supreme Council on the Perak menteri besar crisis as well as its position on the federal government.
“Kelantan Umno is committed and resolute to the Muafakat Nasional charter that has been signed at the national level with PAS and has agreed to it as the 'ummah' unification agenda.”
The chapter was referring to Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob's remarks published in Malaysiakini and PAS organ Harakahdaily on December 2.
In the articles, the menteri besar indicated that he would choose to consolidate Perikatan Nasional and rejected the proposal to be bound by Muafakat Nasional.
On Saturday, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he did not discount the possibility of a new political alignment involving other parties, including those from PH, in forming the state government in Perak.
However, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said Umno’s first choice in forming the state government will still be with Perikatan Nasional’s PAS and Bersatu.
Last Friday, the Perak menteri besar post was left vacant after the state assembly ousted Chenderiang assemblyman and Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu in a confidence vote. – The Vibes, December 7, 2020
