MIRI – Public display of pricing tags is mandatory for all food and drinks sold at the Ramadan bazaars. Traders are required to adhere to this requirement even at these bazaars which are seasonal business venues, said Tg Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang.
Speaking when visiting the Ramadan stalls in his constituency in Bintulu town in northern Sarawak, Pang said traders in these bazaars must comply with all requirements governing food preparations and sales.
“It is mandatory to display price tags and all hygiene procedures for food preparation and handling must be obeyed,” he was quoted as saying by the State Public Communications Unit.
“Traders must comply with these requirements. They should also comply with pricing guidelines. Do not sell food and drinks at unreasonable prices,” he said.
Ramadan Bazaars in Sarawak are a crucial lifeline for small-scale food traders, especially in the post-Covid 19 period.
Jepak assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip yesterday said hawkers depend very much on Ramadan bazaars to bring in much-needed money as these bazaars are top-draw for customers.
He said Ramadan bazaars are not just important for breaking of fast by Muslims.
“These bazaars draw crowds from all walks of life and races as they offer huge varieties of delicious food and drinks, not just for Muslims, but for everyone.
“There are Ramadan bazaar traders who can take home up to RM1,000 every day during the bazaar period,” he had said after visiting the Jepak market near Bintulu town in northern Sarawak. – The Vibes, March 31, 2023
