KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (Masjid Tanah-PN) has been unanimously elected as the new chairman of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), following a voice vote in the Dewan Rakyat today.

The Bersatu lawmaker will be aided by PAC deputy chairman Wong Shu Qi (Kluang-PH), who was a member of the committee prior to the dissolution of Parliament in October last year.

The preceding committee was led by Wong Kah Woh (Taiping-PH) during his tenure as Ipoh Timur MP and his deputy, former Beaufort MP Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun.

Besides the chairman and their deputy, the PAC also consists of six to 12 members who are nominated by a selection committee.

Among the responsibilities of the PAC is to examine the accounts of the federation and the appropriation of the sums granted by Parliament to meet public expenditure.

Besides that, the committee also scrutinises accounts of public authorities and other bodies administering public funds as may be laid before the Dewan Rakyat while going through the Auditor-General’s Reports.

Some of the matters the previous PAC had looked into include the governance of Education Malaysia Global Service, issues surrounding the MySejahtera app as well as the contentious littoral combat ships scandal. – The Vibes, April 4, 2023
