KUALA LUMPUR – Kajang police nabbed a 46-year-old man on Sunday after he interrupted tarawih prayers to complain about blaring loudspeakers and allegedly kicked a surau door at a block of flats in Sg Chua.

This came after a police report was lodged on the incident which took place at 9.25pm that evening.

In a statement today, police said preliminary investigations showed that the suspect lived nearby the surau and was dissatisfied and enraged with the volume of the surau’s loudspeakers.

“Police advise all parties not to make any speculation on the incident that could jeopardise public safety and harmony, as action has been taken with the cooperation of the Islamic Religious Department’s district office in Hulu Langat,” the statement read.

After assisting with the investigation, the suspect was released on bail on Monday, police said.

The investigation is being carried out under Section 295 of the Penal Code for causing damage or defiling a place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class.

If convicted, the man faces a maximum prison sentence of two years, a fine, or both.

The incident is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for uploading and spreading obscene content. – The Vibes, April 13, 2023
