KUALA LUMPUR – Six accused who missed posting bail last Thursday and had to spend the long Hari Raya Aidilfitri weekend behind bars were released today.

Lawyer Alvin Tan was reported saying by Free Malaysia Today that their bailors were told to post bail at the Kuala Lumpur court complex this morning.

Tan expressed thanks for the court officers who came to work to facilitate bail procedures despite it being a public holiday, adding that bail procedures for all six were completed at around noon, when they were released.

The six have claimed trial to a criminal case.

Their bail predicament was reported last week after court staff allegedly closed the bail counter earlier than usual at 2.53pm instead of 4.30pm on Thursday.

The matter was brought up to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who said it would be investigated.

Yesterday, however, the Federal Court’s chief registrar’s office issued a statement denying that the bail counter had closed early last Thursday, and that the bailors for the six accused had not shown up when the counter closed at 4pm. – The Vibes, April 24, 2023
