KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Academy (Maca) will resume operations on May 18 once some remedial works are completed at the landslide site, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

In a Facebook post today, he said the remedial works include restoring electrical, water, and sewage lines to the building and the opening of a temporary lane for vehicle access.

Nanta said that other works involving the placing of tarpaulin on the exposed slopes began on Wednesday.

“Placement of sheet piles as well as the construction of temporary access to the building began today and is expected to be completed on May 12,” said Nanta.

As an added measure, an early warning system was also installed yesterday and more sensors are expected to be installed once the sheet piling work is completed, said Nanta.

Meanwhile, the minister said the permanent repair works are set to take place over the course of two years.

Previously, Nanta said the Public Works Department found leakages in the water piping system at the landslide’s location.

He said this led to the soil being fully saturated, further increasing the lateral force on the contiguous micropile retaining wall. – The Vibes, April 28, 2023
