PUTRAJAYA – Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has refuted reports that Covid-19 vaccines from China are ineffective and dangerous.

In his briefing today, the health director-general said such claims are false, and that China has experience producing other types of vaccines.

“China has experience making vaccines. The thing is, this vaccine is new, and research must be done. There are three stages of clinical trials, and now, there are 12 vaccines in the third phase.”

He said the ministry is closely following coronavirus vaccine developments, but none has yet been registered with the National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency.

On the conditional movement control order (CMCO) imposed in several states following the third virus wave, he said it has been successful in preventing an exponential rise in infections.

The CMCO has resulted in a reduction in the R-naught value – the infectivity rate of a virus – from 2.2 to 0.96.

“The R-naught is at 0.96. We expect that by December 23, it will be between 0.95 and 1.05.

“We will probably see daily cases ranging between 845 and 1,700.” – The Vibes, December 9, 2020
