KUALA LUMPUR – To showcase the unity government’s cohesion, respective party colours took a back seat as the unity government convention’s attendees all donned white colour apparel.

At first glance, it does seem odd to see members of parties once opposed to each other at the same venue, let alone talk to each other.

Nonetheless, it showed the progress of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s aspiration for the nation to prioritise harmony – dispelling rumours of the unity government’s instability.

The highly anticipated convention is the first event of its kind to feature all political parties which are part of the unity government.

S. Priragathiswaran, a member of MIC’s youth wing and a representative of the party’s Pahang chapter, said the convention was the best approach to evoke a sense of unity among party members.

“We can see the unity (of political parties) today, even though this convention was under the leadership of Anwar,” he told The Vibes.

“This reflects that (the government) is confident in its unity. If we weren’t, we would not be here. All parties believe in the aspiration,” he added.

Meanwhile, a Kelantan Amanah member who goes by the name of Anizan expressed her excitement to be at the convention today.

“I am very excited, it is my first time here. I’m happy to see everyone talking to each other,” she said cheerfully.

Similarly, Angellie Stephen Raja from Gabungan Parti Sarawak said seeing a variety of parties in a single location was refreshing.

“I do not know what to expect, but the vibes you get from being here physically is different from just watching on the television,” she said.

The Unity Government National Women’s Convention and the Unity Government Pemuda Puteri National Convention kicked off today’s events – both were held simultaneously at 10am.

Academics opined that the maiden convention is the best platform to end any attempt to threaten the nation’s political stability, allowing the government to focus on the people. – The Vibes, May 14, 2023
