PUTRAJAYA – All political parties in the unity government have given their commitment not to entertain any attempt to sabotage the government, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told civil servants today.
The prime minister said the support was shown by the leaders of Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Parti Sarawak, and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah at the Unity Government National Convention held in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
“The convention clearly reinforced that any attempted sabotage will not be entertained, at least for years to come,” Bernama reported him saying at a meeting with staff at the Prime Minister’s Department here.
“I am more confident because as I saw yesterday’s Unity Government Convention has established a strong form of government, even though in the early stages various attempts at (using) statutory declarations and so on reached the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the sultans,” he said.
Anwar said that six months since the government was formed, it is now more organised and its programmes have helped to stabilise the country.
Anwar, who is also finance minister, said the current political stability has contributed to the country and economy’s good performance, such as better-than-expected growth of 5.6% in the first quarter of this year.
“If you look at the figures from the Statistics Department, the first quarter is much better than what was projected in November and December last year... inflation decreased, the number of unemployed decreased, and investment also increased,” he said.
Last Friday, Anwar said the government was confident of achieving the 4.0% to 5.0% growth forecast for 2023 despite the challenges and uncertainties in the global economy, supported by Malaysia’s strong economic base and the implementation of Budget 2023 measures.
He said increased investment inflow requires all parties at the central and state levels to work simultaneously.
“States and municipalities should work as hard as possible so that (approvals) can be accelerated. This will ensure that we can maintain a more convincing growth rate and highlight our commitment and seriousness,” he said. – The Vibes, May 15, 2023
