KUALA LUMPUR – The Pure Life Society has announced prominent lawyer and human rights activist Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan as its new president, following the recent death of its revered co-founder and life chairman, Mother A. Mangalam.

The society’s vice-president and chairman, Datuk V.L. Kandan, said Ambiga had been nominated by Mother Mangalam herself prior to her death, on February 24.

The nomination is in accordance with the Pure Life Society’s incorporation ordinance, whereby the president has the right to nominate a member as a successor in the event of death or retirement.

Ambiga is a life member of the society.

The society’s management committee was informed of Ambiga’s nomination on June 11, Kandan added.

“On behalf of the Committee of Management, children, and staff, a warm welcome is extended to Datuk Ambiga to lead and inspire us all at the Pure Life Society.

“Under the capable leadership of Ambiga, we will continue to pursue our motto: One God, One World, One Race,” he said.

Mother Mangalam died on June 10 at the age of 97.
