KUALA LUMPUR – MCA will not contest in the upcoming state elections in Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan.

Party secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon in a statement today said, for now, MCA preferred to focus on its preparations for the next general election, apart from working on strengthening the party.

“We reached the decision during our central committee meeting today after detailed discussions, analysis, and considering the current political situation,” he said.

He said MCA would, as a Barisan Nasional component party, assist the coalition’s candidates in the state polls.

The Election Commission had earlier announced that elections in all six states would be held on August 12, while nominations and early voting will be on July 29 and August 8 respectively. – The Vibes, July 5, 2023
