Selangor Zakat Board appoints Shopee as collection agent

SHAH ALAM – The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) has appointed e-commerce platform Shopee as a collection agent to facilitate the payment of tithes by Muslims in the state.

LZS chief executive Saipolyazan M. Yusop said Selangor folk can now pay their property and personal zakat through the Shopee app from December 18.

“Users only need to select the zakat payment option in the ‘Deals, Top-ups & Bills’ section of the app, and follow the simple steps.

“The payment of zakat can be done using the ShopeePay e-wallet, debit cards, online banking, and cash payments at 7-Eleven counters,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the zakat campaign on Shopee will run from December 22 to 31, with the first 1,000 to make zakat payments each day during the period to get 200 Shopee coins.

“The appointment of Shopee as the first e-commerce platform to work with LZS is timely.

“LZS is always diversifying its zakat payment channels for the convenience of Muslims. Given the current situation and under the new norms, this cooperation is expected to help many Muslim Shopee users pay zakat.” – Bernama, December 13, 2020
