KUALA LUMPUR – DAP will field 15 candidates in Selangor for state elections next month.

Party secretary-general Anthony Loke announced their names at a press conference here today, adding that six of the 15 are fresh faces.

Age-wise, five or 33% of the candidates are below the age of 40, while five are also women.

“None of the candidates are above 60, the oldest is 57, while the youngest is 33,” Loke said.

These are the candidates and seats, as well as their status:

N04 Sekinchan – Ng Suee Lim, incumbent, male, 53

N06 Kuala Kubu Baru – Lee Kee Hiong, incumbent, female, 37

N22 Teratai – Yew Jia Haur, new, male, 45

N27 Balakong – Ong Chun Wei, new, male, 34

N28 Seri Kembangan – Wong Siew Ki, Balking seat incumbent, female, 37

N30 Kinrara – Ng Sze Han, incumbent, male, 52

N31 Subang Jaya – Michelle Ng Mei Sze, incumbent, female, 33

N34 Bukit Gasing – Rajiv Rishyakaran, incumbent, male, 42

N52 Banting – Papparaidu Veraman, new, male, 48

N56 Sg Pelek – Lwi Kian Keong, new, male, 48

DAP is currently the incumbent in all 15 seats.

In the general election in 2018, it won in 16 seats but for the state polls next month, it is giving the Dusun Tua seat to Barisan Nasional.

Loke today said the candidate line-up is one the party had carefully weighed to fight the stiff competition expected in the polls.

“We want a candidate line-up that ensures wins in all our seats. We have weighed a lot of factors to ensure that we have a convincing line-up. We must ensure that we move together as a strong team,” he said.

Loke also recorded his thanks to the incumbents who have given way for younger and new blood to step up.

Selangor will go to the polls on August 12, along with five other states – Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang and Negri Sembilan. The Kuala Terengganu by-election will also be held on the same date. – The Vibes, July 24, 2023.
