KUALA LUMPUR – Former 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) lawyer Jasmine Loo is still being investigated by police who have yet to hand over the case to the anti-graft authorities, said the police deputy inspector-general today.

“So far there are no recent developments and the investigation is still at the police level,” Bernama quoted Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay as saying at a press conference today.

He said police will investigate her before handing the case over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

Loo, who had an Interpol red notice for her arrest, was arrested on July 7 to facilitate investigations into the embezzlement of 1MDB funds.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced her arrest on July 12.

She is the former executive director of 1MDB group strategy and is believed to have been part of 1MDB scandal mastermind Low Taek Jho’s inner circle.

Saifuddin said Loo is believed to have information regarding 1MDB.

She and five others including Low were charged in absentia in December 2018 with money laundering over transactions involving Low’s company Good Star Ltd and 1MDB’s predecessor, the Terengganu Investment Authority.

Loo was charged with two counts of money laundering over US$6 million (RM27.9 million) received in a Swiss account she controlled. She is alleged to have committed these offences on December 6, 2012 and July 1, 2014. – The Vibes, July 25, 2023
