KUALA LUMPUR – India’s intelligence agencies have yet to come forward to the Malaysian police on information regarding a planned terrorist attack by a Malaysia-based Rohingya group in India.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador said accounts of this latest development, as reported by the media in India, were news to him.

He was quoted by Free Malaysia Today as saying that the police have yet to receive any information on the terror plot from any enforcement agency.

It is learnt that the police will be addressing the issue in time.

Hamid’s response came after a Malaysia-based Rohingya outfit alleged to have financial ties with fugitive preacher Zakir Naik was reported to have harboured plans to launch terror attacks in India.

According to The Times of India, Indian intelligence intercepted crucial financial transactions between the group, Rohingya leader Mohammed Naseer, who is based in Kuala Lumpur, and Zakir.

The group is believed to be at an advanced stage of orchestrating strikes in various parts of India.

Indian intelligence said attacks were planned in several cities and states, namely Ayodhya, Bodhgaya, Srinagar, and Punjab.

It is learnt that intelligence authorities are trying to determine if a Rohingya militant group that came under the spotlight last year for raising funds for Rohingya refugees in Malaysia is involved in the current set of transfers.

The Mumbai-born Zakir has been wanted by Indian authorities since 2016 on charges of money laundering and inciting extremism through hate speech.

He was granted permanent residency in Malaysia before that and is understood to be living in the country. – The Vibes, December 13, 2020
