KOTA BARU – Tan Sri Annuar Musa’s claim about Umno being on the brink of mass exodus of members has been dismissed as a rant of someone who is still angry and upset at having been sacked from the party.

Kelantan Barisan Nasional (BN) secretary Datuk Seri Md Alwi Che Ahmad urged all quarters to wait and see if the prediction comes true.

He was commenting on Annuar’s recent claim that many Umno leaders and members will be leaving the party soon and that an announcement on the matter will be made this Friday.

Annuar, who is now with PAS, is a former Umno information chief and former BN secretary-general. He had also served as a federal minister in a few portfolios.

He was sacked from Umno in December last year.

Earlier in June this year, Annuar had claimed that two million members had left Umno, but party deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan refuted this.

Md Alwi told a press conference today that Annuar may have resorted to making such a claim as he is still unhappy after being sacked by Umno.

On the announcement allegedly set to take place on Friday, he said Kelantan BN was adopting the “wait and see” approach.

To date, he said they have not been informed of any leaders leaving Umno as alleged by Annuar, a former Ketereh MP.

“Annuar said they will announce this Friday. So, we just wait until Friday to see who will leave as claimed by the MN (Muafakat Nasional) chairman,” Md Alwi told reporters.

“We can’t comment until we know who is leaving. Those who wish to leave, go ahead. To me, this is normal, and we are not affected,” he added. – The Vibes August 2, 2023
