PETALING JAYA – While operating a veterinary clinic, Dr Zul Erwan Azmi also advocates for stray animals. He runs a non-profit called Zul Erwan Cat House, which helps stray cats find permanent homes.
With the spotlight shining on Oyen, a ginger feline rescued at the site of the Elmina plane crash and brought to Zul Erwan Cat Clinic for treatment, the good doctor uploaded an Instagram post about Adik, another unfortunate stray.
Adik, still a kitten, had the misfortune of going up an escalator that was descending at the Sg Buloh MRT station.
Adik ended up getting his leg and tail caught up in the escalator. Staff members there saw what happened and immediately hit the stop button. They disentangled Adik from the escalator and brought him to Zul Erwan Cat Clinic for treatment.
Dr Zul Erwan said Adik is due for another surgery today to remove his tail and several toes.
In the post that was put up just several hours ago, Dr Zul Erwan said Adik MRT would be up for adoption.
“Adik is looking for someone who is willing to adopt him once he fully recovers. Those interested can contact the clinic,” he said.
It did not take long, however, as Dr Zul Erwan updated the post saying Adik MRT has found a permanent home.
The clinic has always been helping stray animals. Several months ago, they rescued a stray dog that turned up one day with a gaping hole on one side of his face.
The dog had been a regular stray in the area and would go to the clinic for food in the evenings. However, one day, he went missing. When he returned after quite some time, he had sustained a severe facial injury.
Dr Zul Erwan and his team coaxed the dog to calm down and eventually brought him in for treatment. A surgery fixed the gaping hole and made the dog look somewhat normal again.
In an Instagram post at the time, Dr Zul Erwan expressed hope that there would soon be measures to protect stray dogs in the country. – The Vibes, August 22, 2023
