MIRI – Sarawak is committed to move forward as a state with a high-income economy within the federation of Malaysia, with billions of ringgit coming in from sales and services taxes (SST) on Petronas oil products, said acting governor Tan Sri Mohamed Asfia Awang Nassar.

In his message for Malaysia Day today, he said Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg had managed to considerably improve the income of the state government by RM13.3 billion via the SST imposed on the operations of Petronas in Sarawak.

“We in Sarawak are moving forward as part of the federation of Malaysia towards a better future.

“Premier Johari’s great achievement of getting extra income of RM13.3 billion for Sarawak from the SST on Petronas will help Sarawak to build better infrastructure and better amenities for the rakyat.

“Sarawak has already attained high-income economy status,” he said, adding that the state will attain developed status in 2030.

Asfia is holding the acting governor post until Taib returns to Sarawak from his recuperation following surgery overseas. – The Vibes, September 16, 2023
