KUALA LUMPUR – Muar MP, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman claimed that allocations for his constituency were revoked after he quit the government bloc in Parliament.

He claimed he had since confirmed the matter with the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU).

“It is confirmed. As soon as I joined the opposition bloc, the allocation was stopped.

“Of the RM3.8 million that all government MPs receive, RM2 million can go to building halls, renovating schools, and helping the needy.

“The question is, why do government MPs receive almost RM4 million while opposition MPs receive nothing? Don’t blame us, answer the people,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.

Syed Saddiq’s party, Muda, had earlier quit the government bloc following protests over the court's discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Muda president said that until today, there was no satisfactory explanation from the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) on the DNAA pertaining to the 47 graft charges against Zahid.

Syed Saddiq’s move to the opposition caused the unity government to lose its two-thirds majority in the august house.

Meanwhile, Minister of Communications and Digital Fahmi Fadzil said Syed Saddiq should ask Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin why opposition MPs have yet to receive their allocations.

According to him, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof had asked opposition MPs to present their proposals on the amount of allocations needed. – The Vibes, September 19, 2023
