MIRI -  The state secretariat today announced the postponement of all public events earlier planned in conjunction with the 87th birthday of Sarawak Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.

State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki in a statement, said the events scheduled for Oct 13, 14 and 15 were postponed.

Saturday, Oct 14, is the gazetted date for the Governor's birthday.

There was no reason given for the decision to postpone all the scheduled events.

"The Oct 14 gazetted birthday remains a public holiday for Sarawak.

"However, all events scheduled for Oct 13 to 15 in conjunction with the birthday will be postponed to dates to be determined later," said the statement.

Among the major events that were scheduled included an award presentation ceremony for recipients of state honours and a state dinner that Taib was supposed to attend.

Taib returned to Sarawak from abroad on Sept 16 after two months.

During that time overseas, he had reportedly undergone surgery in Turkey. - The Vibes, October 10, 2023
