BINTULU – With two more days for the Jepak by-election, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is now in its final leg of campaigning, with focus on door-to-door visits.
Jepak election team director Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said the party did not hold any large-scale ceramah and its teams were now visiting kampungs and longhouses to conclude its campaign there.
“Our candidate (Iskandar Turkee) is now focusing on visiting voters in the outskirts of the constituency.
“For now, the feedback we have received is positive and our team is confident of victory.
“The opposing parties may be staging big public rallies to end their campaigning but for us in GPS, our ground visits are enough,” he said.
The Jepak state by-election in Bintulu district in northern Sarawak is a three-cornered fight between Iskandar, Aspirasi candidate Chieng Lea Phing and Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s Stevenson Sumbang.
The main opposition parties in Sarawak like Pakatan Harapan and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) had earlier decided not to contest.
Aspirasi and PBK are independent opposition parties in Sarawak, formed only less than 10 years ago.
Jepak, located within the Bintulu parliamentary seat, has 22,804 registered voters, with Malay-Melanaus making up 54%, Ibans 35%, Chinese 6% and the rest Orang Ulus, Bidayuhs and other minority ethnic voters.
