It's that time of the year again when there’s a spike in #newyearnewme personas queuing up for their resolution-inspired gym memberships.

Whether the goal is to lose weight, cultivate an active lifestyle or even just to get moving, you don’t need to join an expensive gym to switch up your lifestyle.

In an age where everything is accessible online, fitness applications and programs are readily available for those who seek a more affordable way to get in shape.

Download some home workout apps on your phone.

Moving past apps that charge for a workout plan, here are some recommendations on how you can boost your fitness without spending a single cent.

A great way to begin your fitness journey is to download a series of free home workout apps from Leap Fitness Group ─ they’re great for those starting out.

Not only do these apps cater to your personal goals, but the gradual increase of duration and intensity in your short workouts will also help you progress exponentially over time.

However, if you are looking for a mobile app with greater intensity, download Keep Inc’s Keep-Home Workout Trainer.

While the Keep app works in a similar way as the Leap Fitness apps, its intensity levels are adjustable.

Its coin-collecting feature, which allows you to ‘purchase’ additional workout plans, ensures that users stay motivated without being too adventurous in their efforts.

Follow home workout fitness accounts on Instagram.

If downloading a new mobile app is not an option, why not take advantage of an app that’s probably installed on your phone.

Like other individuals who share bits and pieces of their lives online, fitness enthusiasts regularly post their workout routines on Instagram.

Here are a couple of interesting profiles you can start with.

@madfit.ig and @ london_fitness_guy both posts their workouts on Instagram and YouTube.

If you’re someone who needs a workout plan or a virtual instructor, these profiles will start you off until you find one that’s more to your liking.

Subscribe to YouTube fitness channels.

If you require an instructor in real-time, YouTube is your go-to solution.

YouTube not only boasts a vast number of fitness channels, it provides a platform where viewers can follow their instructor on a regular basis.

However, finding one that fits your fitness level, or your goals, could prove to be a struggle.

If the above-mentioned apps are not challenging enough or if you’re not keen on adding another Instagram profile to your network, try subscribing to YouTubers who provide free workout programmes, such as Chloe Ting.

Not only does she have an Instagram page and a YouTube channel, she also has a website that boasts a variety of workout plans: from 14-day routines to two-month-long programmes.

Regardless of what your preferred method may be, the ultimate goal here is to cultivate a sustainable and long-lasting fitness routine, as opposed to plans that revolve around a spontaneous burst of energy and the shortest of timeframes to achieve your goal.

The Vibes Sports and Fitness team would like to wish all its readers all the best and a very happy new year. ─ The Vibes, 4 January, 2021
