KUALA LUMPUR − The national men’s special project squad team manager I. Vikneswaran is now officially the new president of the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association (KLHA) for the 2022-2024 term.

The election of Vikneswaran, who was acting president in replacing incumbent Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin, was unanimous at KLHA’s annual general meeting (AGM) here today.

Megat was suspended for 18 months from engaging in hockey-related activities after being found to have violated the Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) tournament code of conduct in November 2020.

When met by reporters afterwards, Vikneswaran said that his main mission is to settle the association’s debts amounting to RM150,000 and expected this to be resolved within two years.

“First of all, we will pay our outstanding debts, it is not a problem. We will take on the responsibility (debt settlement) and seek funds from private companies as well as affiliate members − I target to be able to settle the debt problem (by) this term,” he said.

Also present were Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal and his deputy Prof. Datuk Dr. S. Shamala.

At the same time, Vikneswaran hopes to develop the Kuala Lumpur hockey team by ensuring that they undergo high-performance training as well as invigorate hockey activities with the organisation of the Kuala Lumpur Hockey League, including at the children’s level.

Vikneswaran also expressed his appreciation to Subahan, MHC affiliate members as well as Kuala Lumpur City Hall, the Federal Territory Sports Council and the Federal Territories Ministry for the support given to him and KLHA.

Apart from Vikneswaran, the AGM also saw Joherman Amir elected as deputy president while Hebzibah Sudin, who was previously vice -president, was once again entrusted to hold the post along with Datuk Rosal Azimin Ahmad, Nasrun Mustapha, P. Jasbere Singh and Sanjay Kumar Saigal. – Bernama, February 26, 2022
