KUALA TERENGGANU – Whether Terengganu Football Club (TFC) head coach Nafuzi Zain will remain with the team next season will be known in two weeks’ time, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who is also Terengganu Football Association president.

He said Nafuzi’s future as the Turtle squad coach would be discussed and decided in the Terengganu Football Club Sdn Bhd board meeting after the Deepavali celebration on October 25.

“I am following the current developments, so let us see what is going to happen on October 25,” he said when met at the Terengganu Football League tournament award ceremony last night.

It is understood that Nafuzi’s contract with the Turtles expires on November 30. He had also hinted that this season would be his last with the squad as he has not received any offer from TFC to extend his contract.

However, Terengganu football fans have urged that the 44-year-old coach stay after he successfully led TFC to the FA Cup final.

In response, Samsuri urged the state’s football fans to remain calm and not make further speculation amid fears that it could affect the team's focus on the Malaysian League, which is still not over.

In another development, Samsuri also said TFC will look into a suitable reward if the Turtles qualify for next year’s Asian Confederation Cup (AFC).

“But we have not talked about the form of incentive. Most importantly, the players must defeat Kedah tonight to qualify for the AFC Cup,” he said. – Bernama, October 15, 2022
