KUALA LUMPUR – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has praised the development of football in Malaysia through the impressive performances of the national team and clubs such as Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) and Kuala Lumpur (KL) City FC.
Its president Sheikh Salman Ibrahim Al Khalifa said that under the able leadership of president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin, the Malaysian Football Association (FAM) has been investing in capacity building with impressive results, clearly manifesting AFC’s vision of developing the sport in its member associations.
“The Malaysian national team will compete in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup after a long gap and this is welcome news for all football-loving Malaysians, who can also cheer (for) the results of JDT after they reached the 2022 AFC Champions League round of 16 and, of course, KL City who reached the 2022 AFC Cup final.
“FAM is one of our leading member associations and we appreciate our close engagement, which sees FAM availing of the many benefits provided by the AFC through the AFC’s development funding and programmes,” he said in a statement issued by AFC today.
Meanwhile, Hamidin thanked the AFC president for the unstinted support while outlining FAM’s plans for further developing the sport across the country through a range of projects.
