KUALA LUMPUR – Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) did well to secure a 3-0 victory over Premier League runners-up Kelantan FC in the first leg of their 2022 Malaysia Cup semi final tonight.

Playing away at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, the Southern Tigers had no trouble dominating the game, blazing 2-0 ahead in the first half, much to the dismay of the 20,000-strong home crowd.

Super League top scorer Bergson da Silva opened accounts with a 29th-minute header while teammate Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad scored in the 37th minute.

JDT’s third goal of the match came in the 74th minute through Velazquez. Even the sending off of JDT midfielder Mohd Afiq Fazail in the 75th minute for a second yellow card could not change Kelantan’s fortunes.

Sabah FC, meanwhile, will bring a one-goal advantage to the second leg after downing Kuching City FC at State of Sarawak Stadium, Kuching tonight.

Sabah’s Baddrol Bakhtiar was named man of the match for notching the solitary goal in the 69th minute.

Kuching City will face Sabah in Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu while Kelantan will meet JDT in the second leg next week to determine the finalists. – Bernama, November 5, 2022
